Redlands FC Set for Rematch vs SoCal Eagles
Redlands will look to make it two wins in four days against their division rival
Redlands FC is back at Dodge Stadium Saturday night as it takes on the Southern California Eagles. These two teams met just a few days ago, with Redlands taking the road victory by a score of 3-2. Now, the Eagles look to make it a season series split, while Redlands goes for the sweep.
The Opponent
After the loss to Redlands on Wednesday, the Eagles find themselves in what is essentially a must-win game if they want to at least stay competitive in the playoff race.
The team currently sits sixth in the eight team Southwest Division with a record of 2-3-2. A fourth loss Saturday would dig them a 6 point hole away from the playoffs with just four games left.
All of this comes after the Eagles had a 2-0-0 start to the season before going winless in their last 5 matches.
Chasing First Place
Redlands will come into the matchup on Saturday second in the division and in the final playoff spot. The first place Fusion are level on points with RFC, but have a game in hand.
Redlands also has to be careful of what’s below them, as Stars FC are also level on points with Redlands. RFC holds the goal-differential advantage and will have home field advantage when they meet in late June though.
Needless to say, a Redlands win Saturday sets up a major opportunity to get Stars off their back the following week when the teams meet.
Player to Watch: Kevin Meza
Meza scored the game-winner against the Stars via PK on Wednesday. Redlands' No. 18 will look to play the hero again Saturday night.
Final Notes:
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Dodge Stadium on the campus of Redlands High School. The match will also be streamed on SportsEngine Play.
