Redlands FC will once again be in action at Dodge Stadium this Saturday, but not for USL2 play. The Redlands squad will instead be playing a friendly against the KickaBallPod SoCal Junior College Select Team.

The Opponent

The Kick a Ball Pod select team was formed by, as one would guess, the members of KickaBallPod, a podcast and social media platform that highlights college and pro soccer, including USL2. The podcast has also specifically covered Redlands FC during this season and previous seasons.

This select team is facing multiple opponents in the area this summer, including AV Alta Academy on Friday before facing Redlands the next day.

An Opportunity for Growth

Redlands will use this matchup as a way to fine tune some things and prepare for the rest of the USL2 season. Head Coach Cody Carlson said “We picked up this game for a few reasons. One of them being we wanted to add another home game during this tough stretch”. That “tough” stretch of course being Redlands current 5 game road trip in USL2 play.

Carlson also said that, with no substitution limit for the match, everyone will get an opportunity, “We will be able to give some other players a chance to perform in a game and see what they can do.”

Carlson also credited KickaBallPod for building the social media presence they have and for building their select team, stating “I think it’s a way to continue to put Redlands on the map and also allow an opponent an opportunity to play at Dodge Stadium in a great environment.”

Player to Watch: Cody Bell

As mentioned with no substitution limit, it is expected that plenty of new lineup combinations from Redlands will emerge, making naming a player to watch difficult. But this game’s man will be Cody Bell. Bell is one of the players for Redlands that has seen limited minutes as a substitute, but the former University of Redlands and Redlands East Valley High School student-athlete certainly has the ability to be explosive offensively and create opportunities for others.

Final Notes

This friendly match will not be live streamed anywhere, so come out to Dodge Stadium to see some of the best local talent perform.

After this friendly, it will be USL2 play only the rest of the summer for Redlands, starting with the resumption of their 5 game road trip with a battle against the SoCal Eagles on June 4th.
