Redlands earned a well deserved point on the road Wednesday night
Redlands FC spent their Wednesday evening in Ventura as they took on the Ventura County Fusion. The Fusion are one of the best clubs the USL2 has to offer, and Redlands, like they have in previous meetings, played them tight all game long en route to a 0-0 draw.
The first 10 minutes acted as a feel out process for both sides, with plenty of players getting their first touches and looking to build up. The action began shortly after, as in the 12th minute Redlands fired the first shot on goal of the game that was saved by Fusion keeper and former Redlands FC man Miguel Hernandez. The Fusion responded with their first shot a minute later, but Tony Flores made the stop.
Over the next half hour, neither team was able to find real momentum. Redlands got what was arguably their best chance of the game in the 40th minute when a free kick was just tipped over the bar by Hernandez. But the heroic save kept the game scoreless headed into halftime.
The second half followed a similar script to the first. Both teams got occasional chances on set piece opportunities, but could not find a quality finish. The game finally opened up after the 80th minute, as Redlands was able to survive a run by the Fusion that led to a shot in the box just being sent over the bar.
The Fusion also had the last chance of the game that was worth noting, as a shot in stoppage time beat the keeper, but rolled just wide of the post. The final whistle blew a few moments later, with still nothing on the scoreboard.
The draw does snap Redlands three game win streak, but extends their unbeaten streak to four games. The more important note is that they had yet another road game where they were able to at least get a point.
Redlands will now return home June 13th for a friendly, before returning to USL2 play on the road against the SoCal Eagles on June 17th.
