Redlands FC Defeat SoCal Eagles in Comeback Fashion

Redlands FC achieved its first come from behind win of the season Wednesday night in Whittier as they scored two second half goals to steal 3 points.

The first half was a shaky one from Redlands that saw them concede multiple times. However, a 38th minute goal from Redlands native Troy Elgersma sandwiched between two Eagles goals allowed Redlands to go to the locker room only down 2-1.

The first 20 minutes of the second half were pretty tight, with the Eagles doing their best to maintain the lead and Redlands looking for a chance to equalize. Finally, in the 72nd minute, Elgersma finished on a ball loose in the box to make it an even game and give himself a brace.

With momentum now fully on their side, Redlands continued to push on until in the 80th minute when Wyatt Ponting scored to make it 3-2. Ponting, typically a substitute, was inserted into the starting lineup in this match and made it count.

In the last 10 minutes of the match and stoppage time, the Eagles tried to find an equalizer, but despite having some time on attack never found it. The final whistle blew and Redlands had completed a gusty win.

Elgersma earned Man of the Match honors for his two goal performance and Redlands will now remain in 3rd place in the Southwest Division, with the final game of their 5 consecutive road matches streak coming up this Saturday against AMSG.
