REDLANDS, Calif. — J.P. Beall, a Redlands farmer and member of the San Bernardino County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, advanced to the national semifinals of the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Discussion Meet in January, marking the highest level of competitive success for the county in the organization’s 108-year history, according to the county Farm Bureau.

Beall competed in the Young Farmers & Ranchers division and represented California at the national “Sweet 16” semifinals during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention, held Jan. 9–12 in Anaheim. The event brought together 38 competitors representing state Farm Bureau organizations from across the United States.

In December, Beall won the California state championship in the Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet, earning a $6,000 top prize. He is also a local founder of the Young Farmers & Ranchers program.

The competition centers on moderated policy discussions focused on emerging agricultural technologies, artificial intelligence, environmental stewardship, carbon credit markets, land-use policy, and farm succession planning.
