Redlands Community Orchestra to perform Khachaturian and Shostakovich

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Community Orchestra will present its third concert of the season on Sunday, May 18, featuring works by 20th-century composers Aram Khachaturian and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Led by music director James Benanti, the free performance begins at 3 p.m. at the Clock Auditorium on the Redlands High School campus, 804 E. Citrus Ave. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

The program will open with Khachaturian’s sweeping Adagio from Spartacus, followed by a full performance of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47 — a powerful and dramatic work composed during Stalin-era Soviet Russia.

Admission is free and open to the public. Families and children are welcome.

The Redlands Community Orchestra is made possible through the support of the Redlands High School Instrumental Music Department. For more information, contact James Rippetoe at (951) 259-9825 or jamesrippetoe@hotmail.com.
