The unanimous vote directs staff to draft an ordinance banning new warehouse development and limiting future redevelopment.
REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday night to direct staff to draft an ordinance that would ban new warehouse development citywide and limit how existing warehouses may be rebuilt.
The proposed ordinance, which will go next to the Planning Commission for review, would allow existing warehouses to remain as legal, conforming uses and to be rebuilt after a fire or natural disaster only to the same square footage and building height. It would prohibit construction of new warehouses in all zoning districts and specific plan areas, and bar property owners from assembling parcels with existing industrial or warehouse buildings for the purpose of constructing new warehouses.
The motion was made by Council Member Denise Davis and seconded by Council Member Paul Barich.
