REDLANDS, Calif. — CarMax, the nation's largest used car retailer, is set to open a new dealership in Redlands, bringing an estimated 200 jobs and significant tax revenue to the city.
Why it matters: The project is expected to generate significant tax revenue for Redlands. Residents purchasing vehicles would pay a 2% sales tax, while out-of-town buyers would contribute 1% to city coffers. A socioeconomic study indicated a positive cost-benefit ratio of 12.10, meaning the city would receive $12 for every $1 of public money spent on maintenance of the project.
