REDLANDS, Calif. — The Redlands Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the Leadership Redlands Class of 2027, a 10-month program designed to develop local leaders and strengthen community involvement.

The program brings together 20 participants from business, government, education, health care, nonprofit organizations and other sectors to explore issues facing Redlands and develop leadership skills.

Participants attend interactive sessions at locations throughout the city, gaining insight into local organizations, community challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

A central component of the program is a class service project designed to address a community need. Participants work together to identify a project, develop a plan, secure resources and carry it out.

The service project requires an additional time commitment of approximately one hour per week during the planning phase and up to three hours per week during implementation.

Lieren King, a member of the Class of 2026, said the program expanded her understanding of community leadership beyond running a local business.

"I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about what happens within the walls of your own organization — it’s about finding ways to use your experience, resources, and relationships to strengthen the community around you," King said.

George Boateng, also a member of the Class of 2026, said the experience helped him build connections with local leaders and better understand the contributions of businesses and nonprofit organizations.

"This experience has challenged me as a leader and reminded me that when we choose to get involved, we don’t just experience our community, but we contribute to the growth of Redlands," Boateng said.

Tuition is $1,000 and covers all 10 months of programming, including meals at each session. A limited number of scholarships are available based on financial need and merit.

Applications are open to local business owners, public servants, nonprofit professionals, adult students and community members interested in developing their leadership skills.

Applications are due Oct. 31. Interviews will take place in November, and the Class of 2027 will begin in February.
