Redlands Adventist impresses at Tri-County Premier cross-country

Cross-country runners from Redlands Adventist Academy finished second in the girls’ division and third in the boys’ division at the Tri-County Premier League finals at Lake Perris State Recreation Area on Nov. 4.

Senior Aiden Calhoun led the boys team with an 18th place finish in a personal best of 17:19.04 while freshman Hudson Hayton also had a personal best of 17:46.33 while finishing 23rd of 78 runners.

Sophomore Andrew Karpenko was 32nd in the three-mile run in 18:29.30. Sophomore Greyson Ayala was 34th in 18:32.25. Jordan Escobar, a junior, was 62nd in 22:24.54 to round out the scoring for Redlands Adventist.

Redlands Adventist took third with 57 points behind Ontario Christian’s 20 points and 38 points scored by Mesa Grande Academy.

In the girls’ division, Redlands Adventist scored 27 points to take second behind Loma Linda Academy.

Giselle Umali, a sophomore, ran a personal best of 21:52.70 for the three miles. Freshman Zara Mathew was 37th in 23:36.94. Grace Hayton, a senior, was 43rd in 23:47.88 and Madison Gatling was 49th in the field of 69 runners, timed in 25:18.47.

The top qualifers advance to the CIF Southern Section preliminaries on Nov. 14-15 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The section finals are Nov. 22, also at Mt. SAC.
