REDLANDS, Calif. — Police are investigating a series of shootings late Sunday night, including a suspected gang-related attack that ended in a crash and left one person with a gunshot wound.
Officers responded to multiple 911 calls shortly before 11 p.m. March 22 reporting a drive-by shooting in the 1000 block of Carlson Avenue, according to the Redlands Police Department. Witnesses said occupants of a dark-colored sedan fired shots while flashing gang signs as residents ran inside a home. Officers located bullet casings and evidence of gunfire at the scene, but no injuries were reported.
As officers were arriving, additional calls reported a second shooting and a vehicle collision near Delaware Avenue and Washington Street.
Police found a vehicle with multiple bullet holes that had crashed into two parked cars. Three people were inside. One occupant sustained a superficial gunshot wound to the head and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Two others suffered minor injuries in the crash and did not require medical treatment.
According to police, the victims said they were confronted by occupants of a dark-colored sedan at an apartment complex near Delaware Avenue and Orange Street. The suspects allegedly flashed gang signs before the victims drove away westbound on Delaware Avenue.
The suspect vehicle followed and began firing at the fleeing car until it crashed. Investigators said the suspects continued shooting as they drove south on Washington Street.
Officers recovered additional shell casings along Delaware Avenue and at the crash site.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Redlands Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau at (909) 798-7659.
