REDLANDS, Calif. — A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot in a drive-by incident Saturday night in Redlands, police said.

In a news release Monday, Redlands police said officers responded to a shooting shortly after 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 on Orange Street near Union Avenue.

Police found the boy with a gunshot wound to his lower leg and bleeding heavily. An officer applied a tourniquet before paramedics arrived. The teen was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, the victim told officers he was walking on Orange Street when a gray sedan stopped in the roadway. The driver reportedly called out to him before firing a single round, witnesses confirmed. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Investigators later recovered a spent 9mm cartridge in the middle of the road.
