REDLANDS, Calif. — Visitors to some of Redlands' most popular hiking trails will notice new signs aimed at improving wildfire awareness and emergency preparedness.

The City of Redlands Fire Department, Facilities and Community Services Department and the Redlands Conservancy have partnered to install Fire Safety Awareness Signs at trail entrances in the Live Oak Canyon and San Timoteo Canyon areas.

The signs encourage hikers and outdoor visitors to be aware of wildfire conditions, identify secondary evacuation routes, stay hydrated and report emergencies by calling 911.

City officials said the effort is intended to promote fire safety as a shared responsibility while enjoying Redlands' open spaces.

The project was a collaborative effort between city staff and Conservancy members. The city recognized Enzo Ruiz and Peter Flores of the Facilities and Community Services Department, along with Redlands Conservancy Executive Director Sherli Leonard, for their work on the initiative.

The signs have been installed at:

  • Cocomaricopa Alessandro Trail Entrance
  • Cocomaricopa San Timoteo Trail Entrance
  • Creekside East Trail Entrance
  • Creekside Mid-Point Trail Entrance
  • Canyon Drive
  • Oakmont Park
  • Live Oak Canyon – West
  • Live Oak Canyon – Center
  • Gateway Ranch

The city said additional locations, including trails in North Redlands, are being evaluated.
