LOOK Dine-In Cinemas closes Redlands theater
Moviegoers were turned away Sunday evening as crews began removing furniture and equipment from the theatre on Eureka Street.
LOOK Cinemas confirmed the closure of its Redlands theater on Monday, Feb. 2. The company said the decision was not a reflection of staff performance and emphasized that supporting affected employees is a priority.
“This was not an easy decision and is in no way a reflection on the dedication, talent, or hard work of the teams in these locations,” the company said in a statement. “California has been an important part of our company’s history, and we are deeply grateful for the commitment our team members bring to our customers and communities every day.”

CITY HALL
🐓 The Redlands City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to advance a new ordinance allowing residents in most single-family neighborhoods to keep hens, expanding rules currently limited to rural and estate residential zones. The proposal sets hen limits based on lot size, prohibits slaughtering chickens on residential properties, and allows incidental egg sales. Read more about the new rules here:

📢 Demonstrators gathered Saturday morning at Peace Corner in downtown Redlands to protest the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The rally, organized locally by the Redlands Area Democratic club, was one of the many protests held across the country following the recent killings of Keith Porter Jr., Renee Good and Alex Pretti. PUBLIC SAFETY
🚨 Redlands police are investigating a reported hate crime after a driver allegedly yelled racial slurs and attempted to strike a man with a vehicle outside a 7-Eleven on West Lugonia Avenue. The latest police roundup also includes sidewalk robberies, multiple DUI arrests, burglary investigations and a reported school threat under review by the district attorney. Read more here:

EDUCATION
🎓 The RUSD school board approved a $35,000 HBCU college tour trip for 20 students despite pushback from Trustees Candy Olson and Jeanette Wilson. Olson and Wilson voted no on the item, arguing the money would be better spent on academic support and that the trip is not equitable. The remaining board members voted in favor. Read more here:

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

🐾 Meet Fae, the four-legged support behind Redlands firefighters. Redlands firefighters respond to more than 11,000 calls each year — and now they have a new kind of support waiting back at the station. Fae, a trained therapy dog who joined the department in 2024, has quickly become a calming presence for crews after stressful calls and long shifts. Fire officials say she’s “everybody’s dog,” living full time at Station 261 and helping firefighters decompress, connect and reset. Read the full story here:

SPORTS
🏀 Redlands High School’s girls’ basketball team posted its best season in 15 years, finishing 14-7 overall and 5-5 in Citrus Belt League play. The Terriers also snapped a 41-game league losing streak with a Jan. 8 win over Redlands East Valley. Coach Brandon Benjamin credited the turnaround to offseason dedication and senior leadership as the program looks ahead to a new era of higher expectations.
