Loma Linda Academy girls claim Small Schools League opener; ACA’s Micah Slagter shines in boys race

Loma Linda Academy’s girls cross-country team captured first place on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Small Schools League No. 1 3-mile run at Linfield Christian High.
Loma Linda finished with 18 points while Packinghouse Christian of Redlands took third with 23 points. Redlands Adventist Academy was seventh in the field of 17 teams with 45 points and Arrowhead Christian Academy of Redlands was 12th with 73 points.
Sophomore Leah Slagter of ACA finished second in the race in 18:46.2, competing against 116 runners. Priscilla Alao of Loma Linda Academy was her team’s top finisher in 19th place (22:46.20).
Jayden Bauernfeind of Packinghouse Christian led her team with a 25th place finish in 23:10.22. Giselle Umali was Redlands Adventist’ top runner, taking 34th in 23:41.16.
ARROWHEAD CHRISTIAN’S MICAH SLAGTER FINISHES FIFTH
Senior Micah Slagter of Arrowhead Christian Academy ran 16:39.61 for three miles to finish fifth among 155 runners at the Small Schools League Race No. 1 on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Linfield Christian High.
While he was the standout individual among runners from the local area, the Packinghouse Christian boys’ team took third among 21 teams in the event with 30 points. Loma Linda Academy took fifth with 36 points.
Arrowhead Christian finished seventh as a team with 62 points followed by The Grove School in 10th spot with 73 points.
Backing up Slagter was teammate Benjamin Sams, a sophomore, who took 10th in 17:34.91. Ryan Seheult of Loma Linda Academy was his team’s best runner, taking 25th spot in 18:35.87. Hudson Hayton of Redlands Adventist was 35th in 19:24.91.
Liam Urista of Packinghouse Christian was 49th in 19:57.6. Carrick Bartley of The Grove School finished 106th in 23:04.09.
