REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police arrested a man on multiple felony charges after he was shot by a homeowner during a late-night break-in in the 1500 block of Church Street, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of shots fired shortly before midnight Jan. 15. Investigators said the homeowner had just arrived home and discovered an intruder inside the residence.

According to police, the homeowner armed himself with a handgun and began checking the house. During the search, the homeowner encountered the intruder, who pointed a shotgun at him. The homeowner fired his weapon, striking the suspect, then immediately exited the house and called 911.

Officers arriving on scene cleared the home and followed a blood trail to the backyard, where they found the suspect suffering from a single gunshot wound, police said. The suspect was found with property taken from the home.

Police recovered the shotgun, which investigators said the suspect had located inside the residence during the break-in.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Torres Carrion, 52, of Redlands. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, later released and booked at West Valley Detention Center.

Carrion was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail, police said.
