Redlands Unified celebrates inclusive music program with two-night winter performances
REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands Unified School District’s Inspire Music program marked its 10th anniversary this month with a free, two-night winter concert series featuring Special Education student performers from across the district.
The elementary and middle school concert was held Dec. 10 at Redlands East Valley High School’s Blackstone Theatre, followed by a high school and adult transition program concert Dec. 12 at Redlands High School’s Clock Auditorium. Both concerts began at 6 p.m.

Students performed a mix of classic and modern holiday songs, creating an atmosphere that reflected the joy, connection and sense of accomplishment central to the Inspire Music program. In recognition of the program’s 10-year milestone, alumni returned to the stage to perform alongside current students.
“Through their performances, students demonstrate communication, teamwork and stage presence that reflect the strengths of the whole student,” said Todd Rossi, director of Special Services. “The Inspire Choir has grown into a community for both current students and alumni, creating a sense of belonging and support that extends beyond their time in our district programs.”

Founded in 2015 at Citrus Valley High School, the Inspire Music program was created to provide inclusive and enriching musical opportunities for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Now in its 10th year, the program serves more than 200 students districtwide, offering instruction in vocal techniques, music theory and performance.

The program was founded by Cindy Van Horn, who continues to serve as its director.
The anniversary concerts marked both a holiday celebration and a milestone for a program that continues to expand its reach and impact within Redlands Unified.

The Inspire Choir, a central component of the program, performs at school concerts and community events, highlighting the musical accomplishments of students with disabilities. District officials said its continued growth reflects Redlands Unified’s broader commitment to inclusivity and creative expression through the arts.
