Free Redlands workshop offers tips on Reducing holiday waste and living sustainably
City sustainability staff and local business owners will share tips on waste reduction, composting, and eco-friendly holiday habits at the free Nov. 19 event.
REDLANDS, Calif. — A 54-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening, Nov. 5, after allegedly assaulting a security guard with a trekking pole outside the Emergency Room at Redlands Community Hospital, according to the Redlands Police Department.
Police said the man refused to leave after being discharged from the ER. When a security guard attempted to escort him out, the man swung a trekking pole at the guard, attempting to strike him in the head. The guard blocked the blow with his arm, and the suspect was detained until police arrived. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats and was transported to jail.
In a separate incident Monday morning, Nov. 3, officers responded to the 500 block of The Terrace for a report of a fight involving a knife. Police and RPD K9 Jake surrounded the building and ordered the occupants to come out. Two men exited without further incident.
A 46-year-old victim suffered superficial stab wounds and was taken to a hospital. A 74-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into county jail.
Police also cited a 17-year-old for driving under the influence after a crash that damaged several parked cars in the 1400 block of Arlene Street shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. The teen was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officers are investigating reports of gunfire near a juvenile party early Saturday, Nov. 1. Police said shots were fired at a vehicle and a house shortly before 1 a.m., but victims and witnesses picked up shell casings and did not report the incident.
Later that day, a parent contacted police after learning of the shooting. Officers collected evidence, and no injuries were reported.
Around the same time, police responded to a large fight involving about 20 people outside a bar at Citrus Avenue and Sixth Street. Most participants dispersed when officers arrived. Several people were detained and later released.
Also early Saturday, a 2012 Ford Mustang crashed into a yard in the 1100 block of Crescent Avenue. Two people fled before officers arrived. The vehicle was later determined to have been stolen in Riverside.
Later that morning, a vehicle struck a fire hydrant in the 200 block of Judson Street, causing minor damage. The driver later reported the crash to police, saying she swerved to avoid a small animal.
The Redlands Police Department said investigations into several of the incidents are ongoing.
