REDLANDS, Calif. — A Highland man was arrested twice in less than 24 hours last week on charges of stalking and violating a domestic violence protective order outside his former girlfriend’s Redlands home, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody late Wednesday night, Aug. 13, hours after being released from jail on the same charges from the day before, according to the department’s weekly police report released Thursday. In both cases, police said, he was found outside the victim’s home.

On Tuesday, officers found him hiding in a bush after reports he had sneaked into the victim’s yard and pressed his ear to her window to listen to her phone calls. During that investigation, the victim also reported being held against her will by the suspect outside her workplace a week earlier. The suspect faces an additional kidnapping charge in connection with that incident.

Police sought a bail enhancement after Wednesday’s arrest, and the suspect is now being held without bail in county jail.

In other recent incidents:

  • A 16-year-old boy was injured Monday night, Aug. 11, after crashing his e-bike into a vehicle at East State and 6th streets. Video showed the driver had stopped and was proceeding lawfully when the teen, riding the wrong way on the one-way street, collided with the vehicle. He suffered abrasions and was released to a parent.
  • Police are investigating two strong arm robberies reported Sunday, Aug. 10. The first occurred at Auto Zone, 2052 W. Redlands Blvd., where three suspects assaulted an employee after stealing merchandise and fled in a white Chrysler 300. The second was at Food 4 Less, where a 70-year-old security guard confronted a suspect stealing merchandise. The guard was punched twice, suffering minor injuries, before the suspect fled on foot.
  • A driver was arrested for DUI after colliding with the center divider on Redlands Boulevard at 3rd Street late Aug. 10.
  • Police recovered several antiques stolen from an antique auction business in the 1500 block of W. Park Avenue early Aug. 10. A patrol officer spotted a black Mercedes speeding without lights and attempted a stop, but the driver fled, at one point entering Interstate 10 at Waterman Avenue and Hospitality Lane in the wrong direction. The pursuit was called off for safety. The vehicle was later found abandoned on the Tippecanoe onramp, with jewelry, three antique revolvers and other antiques inside. The stolen items were returned to the business.
