More than 700 attend community basketball event benefiting classroom grants
REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands Educational Partnership (REP) raised funds for local schools on April 25 by hosting a lively basketball game between the Harlem Wizards and the REP Rebounders, a team of Redlands Unified School District teachers, administrators and staff, at Redlands East Valley High School.
More than 700 students, families and community members attended the event, which featured slam dunks, trick shots and comedy that kept the crowd cheering, laughing and dancing throughout the night.
“I love to see the community, and especially our students, having so much fun,” said RUSD Superintendent Juan Cabral, who suited up to play for the first time since stepping into the role. “There’s family, friends, food, and the funds are going straight back to our classrooms. Who could ask for more than that?”

Proceeds from the event will support REP’s Grants for Teachers and Grants for Principals programs, which provide funding and classroom resources to RUSD educators.
Event chairwoman Mallory Mudge expressed appreciation for the community’s strong turnout and said her goal for next year is to reach 1,000 attendees.
The evening’s sponsors included exclusive full-court sponsor Redlands Community Hospital, as well as the Redlands Police Officers Foundation, Neal and Joyce Waner, Hatfield Buick GMC, Diehl Orthodontics and Jovi’s Diner.
