Lincoln Memorial Shrine to host annual tribute featuring live music, artillery and historical reenactment
REDLANDS, Calif. — The Lincoln Memorial Shrine will honor one of America’s most enduring speeches with its annual Gettysburg Address commemoration at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in Smiley Park.
The free community event will feature stirring Civil War–era music, live artillery demonstrations and a dramatic rendition of Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 address. Renowned Lincoln presenter Robert Broski will return to deliver the speech, capturing the spirit and solemnity of the moment that helped redefine a nation.
The Mountain Fifes and Drums and the Camp Carleton Cornet Band will perform period music throughout the program. The 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery will conduct live cannon demonstrations, offering a glimpse into the sounds of the battlefield.
The Camp Carleton Cornet Band, a Southern California ensemble dedicated to preserving the tradition of Civil War military music, performs with instruments authentic to the era. The group takes its name from Camp Carleton, the largest of several military camps in San Bernardino during the 1860s.
The Mountain Fifes and Drums, a youth organization based in the San Bernardino Mountains, teaches music, history and leadership through performances in historical uniform. Members regularly appear at events across the country, including the Hollywood Christmas Parade and Colonial Williamsburg’s Drummers Call.
The Gettysburg Address commemoration is free and open to the public.
