REDLANDS, Calif. — Police are investigating what they described as an attempted vehicular homicide after four people were struck and seriously injured outside a downtown bar early Sunday morning. Officers are also investigating gunfire that damaged nearby businesses.

Officers responded shortly before 1:30 a.m. Feb. 22 to reports of an altercation involving several people in front of the Underground bar at 19 E. Citrus Ave., according to Redlands Police.

Witnesses told police that following the altercation, one of the people involved got into a 2022 Tesla and drove west on Citrus Avenue. Minutes later, the vehicle returned eastbound at a high rate of speed and struck four people standing in the street in front of the bar.

Police said the incident is being investigated as attempted vehicular homicide.

The impact caused the driver to lose control and hit a curb, police said. At about the same time, an unknown suspect fired several shots, striking the window of one business and the door of another. No injuries were reported from the gunfire.

The Tesla fled west on Citrus Avenue, leaving behind a trail of leaked vehicle fluids, authorities said.

A video circulating on social media, shows a vehicle driving into a group of people standing in the street outside the Underground bar.

The four people struck by the vehicle were transported to a hospital with major injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact Detective Thomas Williams at (909) 335-4777 or twilliams@redlandspolice.org.
