Former Arrowhead Christian Academy baseball player Ethin Bingaman was selected on Monday on the second day of the Major League Baseball draft.
Bingaman was plucked in the 20th round (pick No. 603 overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Bingaman transferred to state powerhouse Corona High from Arrowhead Christian after his junior year. He went 7-2 on the mound with a 0.78 earned run average last season. Bingaman struck out 79 and walked 16. He also hit .336 with six home runs and 32 runs batted in.
Bingaman throws a fastball in the 93-95 miles per hour range. He was an All-CalHi Sports second-team utility player pick.
The Diamondbacks selected Bingaman as a pitcher. He helped the Panthers to a 28-3 overall record and a No. 17 national ranking, according to MaxPreps.
Bingaman has signed with Auburn University, but it is unknown if he will play for the Tigers or begin his professional career immediately.
Also drafted from Corona High – all in the first round -- were Bingaman’s teammates Seth Hernandez, pitcher, first round (No. 6 overall, Pittsburgh Pirates; Billy Carson, shortstop (10th overall), Chicago White Sox; Brady Ebel, third base (32nd overall), Milwaukee Brewers.
