Five Redlands Area Prep Wrestlers Qualify for CIF Masters Meet

Five Redlands Unified School District wrestlers have qualified for the CIF Southern Section Masters meet that will be conducted Feb. 20-21 at Sonora High School in La Habra.

Three of the wrestlers represent Citrus Valley High School. The boys Masters will take place Friday, starting at 10 a.m.

The girls Masters is set for the same starting time on Saturday.

Hailey Barrios of CVHS is the top seed in the girls Masters at 235 pounds. She will face Sky Aguilano Millan, the No. 16 seed from Bassett High.

Barrios’ teammate Suheily Chavez is seeded No. 5 in the girls Masters at 100 pounds. Her first round opponent will be Ariana Valledares of Dos Pueblos HS.

Also competing in the girls Masters is Kaitlyn Crain of Redlands East Valley, seeded No. 12 at 130 pounds. Crain will take on Zuelah Ellison Peerez of Upland High.

Competing in Friday’s boys Masters will be Micah Freimuth of Redlands High and Christian Barrios of Citrus Valley.

Freimuth, seeded No. 4 at 157 pounds, takes on Gavin Meraw of Aliso Niguel HS. Barrios, the No. 5 seed at 285 pounds, faces George Sixto of Trabuco Hills in the first round.

Of note, former CVHS girls wrestler Gia Coons, competing this season for Orange Vista High, is the top seed in the 235-pound weight class.

Ten boys and eight girls in each weight class will advance to the CIF State Championship on Feb. 26-28 at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield.

Tickets for both days’ meets at Sonora High are $17.80 for adults and $9.40 per child/student.
