Downtown arrests made; student cellphone rules finalized

PUBLIC SAFETY

Two arrests bring answers in major downtown Redlands cases

Downtown Redlands has been the focus of two major public safety developments this week. One involved violence that left multiple people seriously injured, and another was tied to months of break-ins affecting local businesses.

Police arrested a 20-year-old Los Angeles woman in connection with an attempted vehicular homicide after authorities say she drove into a crowd outside The Underground bar in the early morning of Feb. 22, seriously injuring four people.

In a separate case, investigators announced the arrest of a Redlands man they say is linked to a string of commercial burglaries dating back to December that affected multiple downtown businesses.

Together, the arrests mark progress in cases that had raised concerns about safety and stability in Redlands' downtown core.

CITY HALL

🚈 Redlands officials are being asked to weigh in on the extension of a major transportation tax. Measure I has shaped how roads, transit and infrastructure are funded across San Bernardino County for decades. On Tuesday, the City Council will consider endorsing the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s spending plan for continuing Measure I, the half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 1989 and renewed in 2004. The proposal would keep the tax rate the same but extend it beyond its 2040 sunset, generating an estimated $7.5 billion over 30 years for local street repairs, regional freeway and rail improvements and transit services. City approval is one of the steps required before the measure can appear on the November 2026 ballot.
