REDLANDS, Calif. — A 34-year-old man was arrested Oct. 22 on suspicion of child endangerment and assaulting a law enforcement officer after allegedly challenging a student to a fight outside Barbara Phelps County High School on West Park Avenue.

Police said the suspect, who was charging his phone outside the school’s closed campus gates, argued with a 16-year-old student and then challenged him to fight. The student was injured during the altercation, and the suspect fled before officers arrived.

When officers later located him nearby, police said he resisted arrest, injuring one officer before being detained.

Teen arrested after masked confrontation, drug and theft charges

In another incident, a 17-year-old Redlands boy was arrested Oct. 16 on suspicion of brandishing a firearm, drug possession, petty theft, possession of stolen property and probation violation.

Police said the teen confronted a homeowner in the 1500 block of Elizabeth Street the previous morning while wearing all black and a ski mask. When the homeowner confronted him, the suspect reportedly displayed a gun before running off.

The next day, the suspect’s father called police after discovering his son in possession of drugs and property believed to be stolen. The teen fled again but was later arrested at his residence. Police did not find a firearm but said the boy was known to carry a replica.
