Search continues for missing 7-month-old from Cabazon; foul play not ruled out
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in finding a 7-month-old boy reported missing in Yucaipa.

UPDATE: Aug. 20, 2025 — Investigators say they are continuing to search for 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, following up on reported sightings but confirming the child has not yet been located.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday it understands the community’s concern and will provide updates as long as they do not jeopardize the investigation.

While Emmanuel’s father has retained an attorney, investigators said they would welcome cooperation from the parents if they choose to work with detectives.

Officials also acknowledged a fire reported at a neighbor’s property near the Haro home in Cabazon. At this time, investigators said, there is no indication the fire is connected to Emmanuel’s disappearance, though they remain in contact with fire officials as that probe continues.

“Emmanuel continues to be the main focus of this investigation, and we will continue our efforts to locate him,” the department said in a statement.

Emmanuel was last seen on Thursday Aug. 14, his mother told police. He weighs about 21 pounds, is approximately 24 inches tall, has brown hair, brown eyes and is cross-eyed. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.

UPDATE: Aug. 18, 2025 — The investigation into the disappearance of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro is ongoing. Over the past several days, investigators have conducted extensive searches in Yucaipa and Cabazon in an effort to locate Emmanuel and gather evidence about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives have served multiple search warrants at the Haro family home and deployed K9 units to assist. Surveillance video from areas of interest has also been collected and is being reviewed, officials said.

Deputies responded about 7:47 p.m. Aug. 14 to the 34500 block of Yucaipa Boulevard after Emmanuel’s mother, Rebecca Haro of Cabazon, reported she had been attacked outside a retail business while changing her son’s diaper. She told investigators she was knocked unconscious by an unknown man and awoke to find her infant missing, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

On Saturday, the parents of the infant reportedly stopped talking to investigators and had inconsistencies in their account of what happened, detective said.

Update Aug. 16 12:00: Deputies investigating reported kidnapping of 7-month-old in Yucaipa; foul play not ruled out

YUCAIPA, Calif. — Authorities are continuing to search for 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, who was reported missing Thursday night in Yucaipa, and say they cannot rule out foul play in his disappearance.

K9 units from San Bernardino and Riverside counties joined deputies in an extensive search, but Emmanuel was not located.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division interviewed multiple individuals, including Emmanuel’s parents, Rebecca and Jake Haro. Detectives said Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue the interview.

“At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel,” the department said Saturday.

On Saturday, the Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national student advocacy and violence prevention group, announced it was pulling back independent search efforts and a $5,000 reward offer it had launched the previous day. Foundation officials cited inconsistencies in the case details, the mother’s decision to stop communicating with investigators, and her lack of response to the foundation’s requests for information.

The group also said it uncovered an abuse case involving Emmanuel’s father, which raised additional concerns about the child’s welfare.

“We cannot in good conscience, utilize our team and resources when so much is missing in this case,” said Daniel Chapin, founder of the Uvalde Foundation, at a Saturday news conference in Texas. “Of particular concern to us lies within the inconsistencies in the details and the sudden decision by the mother to end communication with law enforcement and our team originally prepared to help. Tell me, what parent would do that who was missing a child? Something is not right in this whole picture.”

Emmanuel weighs about 21 pounds, is approximately 24 inches tall, has brown hair, brown eyes and is cross-eyed. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.
