REDLANDS, Calif. — Some Redlands residents received emails this week offering the option to opt out of the city’s Emergency Notification System, prompting questions about whether action is required to continue receiving alerts, city officials said Thursday.

City officials said the emails were sent by Rave Mobile Safety, the city’s contractor for emergency notifications, and were part of a routine system notice. Residents who wish to continue receiving emergency alerts do not need to take any action.

The emails were sent from cityofredlands@email.getrave.com. Residents who want to opt out of the Emergency Notification System or update their contact information may respond directly to the email or visit the Smart911 registration page associated with the city.

The Emergency Notification System is used to distribute time-sensitive information during emergencies, including wildfires, floods, hazardous materials incidents, evacuations and other public safety threats. Alerts can be delivered by phone call, text message or email, depending on a resident’s preferences.

Residents can register multiple contact methods to receive notifications while at home, work or traveling.

More information about the city’s Emergency Notification System is available on the city of Redlands website.
