Redlands Unified struggles with high absenteeism
Latest California School Dashboard results show a continuing trend of absenteeism among TK–8 student.
City Hall will close Dec. 22–Jan. 2, but essential services remain open and holiday trash pickup will shift to Friday and Saturday.
REDLANDS, Calif. — Most Redlands City Hall administrative offices will close for the holiday season beginning Monday, Dec. 22, and will remain closed through Friday, Jan. 2. City offices, including City Hall, will shut down at the end of business on Thursday, Dec. 18, and reopen Monday, Jan. 5.
Essential city services, including police, fire, code enforcement, water and wastewater utilities, and solid waste collection, will operate as usual. Executive staff, including the city manager and department directors, will continue to monitor operations and respond to emails as needed.
Community centers will operate on adjusted schedules. The Joe R. Gonzales Community Center, Eddie and Gloria Flores Senior Center and the Joslyn Senior Center will remain open Friday, Dec. 19, during regular hours. Pickleball courts at the Flores Senior Center will stay open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The A.K. Smiley Public Library will maintain regular hours except for closures on Dec. 24–25 and Jan. 1. The library will close early at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
The Redlands Animal Shelter will close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, with staff available by phone beginning at 8 a.m. on both days.
Hillside Memorial Park cemetery will remain open to visitors, though office operations will be closed Dec. 22–26 and on Jan. 1. Office hours resume Dec. 29.
The Redlands Municipal Airport and all city parks will remain open. Airport staff can be reached at (909) 557-8520 or through the Facilities and Community Services Department at (909) 798-7655 for issues related to airfield lighting or gate access.
The Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction Division will provide emergency inspections on Dec. 23 and 30. Routine inspections will resume Jan. 5.
There will be no solid waste collection on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Thursday routes will be collected Friday, and Friday routes will shift to Saturday. Missed pickups or questions can be directed to (909) 798-7529; messages will be retrieved daily by 10 a.m.

Encroachment permit inspections will be available weekdays from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, except Dec. 24–25 and Jan. 1. Requests may be submitted at (909) 798-7597, ext. 2, or through the “Request an Inspection” form at www.cityofredlands.org/muedinsp. Encroachment permit applications may still be submitted online during the closure.
