Redlands moves forward with new Fire Station 264 at Heritage Park
City Council approves Heritage Park site and reallocates $1.2 million to begin design work, advancing plans to replace Station 264’s long-term temporary quarters.
Blackhawks bring home championship; Redlands High volleyball, ACA Eagles, and University of Redlands squads continue postseason action.
The Citrus Valley High girls golf team won the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 title at El Prada in Chino Hills.
The Blackhawks had a score of 471.
Kaylani Kim shot 98, Anabia Khankashi 86, Leah Field 101, Alanah MacMillan 83, Kendall Brisette 103, and Marlee Gallego 124.
“I’m tickled to death,” Citrus Valley coach Stephen Howard said. “I got here in 2021 and we had two girls on the team."
Howard is from Augusta, Georgia – home of The Masters golf tournament. He came to Redlands when his wife got a job at ESRI.
Assistant coach James Hamlin was also invaluable, Howard said.
The Redlands High girls volleyball team plays in the CIF-State Southern California Regional Division 1 tournament on Tuesday. The No. 13 seeded Terriers meet CIF-SS Division II finalist and No. 4 seed West Ranch in Stevenson Ranch.
Redlands’ only other state appearance was in 1995 when they lost to host Stockdale in Bakersfield 3-0.
In D3, No. 16 ACA is at No. 1 Academy of Our Lady of Peace of San Diego at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The University of Redlands women’s volleyball team defeated La Verne 3-2 on Wednesday. The scores were 23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11.
It was the first loss of the season for La Verne (22-1, 13-1). Redlands improved to 14-9, 8-7.
Redlands’ Emily Kitchin had 14 kills, Avery Aminoff had 10 kills and four blocks. Lily Kautal contributed nine kills and four aces, and Cecily Wagstaff recorded nine kills.
In the fifth set, Redlands won eight of the last 10 points with Aminoff getting three kills during the run.
It was the Bulldogs’ first win over La Verne since 2010, ending a 28-match losing streak.
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team defeated the University of Redlands 28-14 Saturday on the Bulldogs’ Senior Day.
Redlands scored the first touchdown on a 57-yard touchdown run by Summit High of Fontana grad Mark Mitchell III with 1:49 left in the first quarter.
But CMS scored all 21 second-quarter points to take control.
CMS also added the only score of the third quarter to increase its lead to 28-7 before Scott Clark caught a 2-yard pass from Tobey Schmidt with 3:36 left in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
Schmidt threw for 135 yards and one TD for Redlands.
Javier Sandoval had a career-high eight tackles and Jax Lee, Tate Keddington, Aleks Wojcik, Laurence Williams, Mosese Afemul, Aaron Muniz, and Andrew Placido each had a tackle for loss.
With the loss the Bulldogs (6-3 overall, 4-3 conference) finish second in their division. They will host the second-place team in the other division Saturday at 1 p.m.
