Teams sit at 6-2 as league series near midseason turning point
Citrus Valley High and Cajon High are in a first-place tie in the Citrus Belt League at 6-2 heading into Thursday’s (April 16) final games of their three-game series against Redlands High and Redlands East Valley.
The Blackhawks won their first two games against the Terriers 8-4 and 8-0, with the finale at Redlands High at 4 p.m. Cajon lost its opener to REV 8-1 but edged the Wildcats 1-0 in game two on Tuesday. The finale is at REV at 4 p.m.
Yucaipa has clinched its series with Beaumont, winning the first two games 11-1 and 3-1, with the Cougars hosting Thursday’s finale.
Last week, Cajon swept its three-game series with Beaumont while Redlands took two of three games from REV and Citrus Valley won two of three from Yucaipa.

Redlands East Valley won the finale of its three-game series with Redlands 3-1 as Caleb Jamroz pitched a complete-game two-hitter. The only RHS run was unearned. Jamroz struck out 10 and walked three in 97 pitches. Brayden Dismang and Brayden Juarez each drove in a run for REV.
Citrus Valley beat Yucaipa 5-1 in their series finale. Jacob Caldera went four innings, giving up a run on three hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Nolan Tornberg and Adam Hinds pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit. Peyton O’Loughlin and Julian Cessna had two hits apiece and each drove in two runs. Enrique Estrada drove in Yucaipa’s lone run.
Cajon shut out Beaumont 3-0 behind the three-hit pitching of Gavin Garcia, who struck out 11 and walked three in a complete-game effort on 99 pitches. Steven Rubio and Roy Reyes each drove in a run. Alex Diaz pitched six strong innings for Beaumont.
Citrus Valley opened its series with Redlands with an 8-4 victory. Adam Hines threw a complete-game four-hitter with eight strikeouts. Nathan Castillo went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Julian Cessna, Aaron Rossi and Jacob Caldera each drove in a run.
Diego Uribe went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Redlands, while Nate Jimenez also drove in a run.
Redlands East Valley scored four runs in the first inning en route to an 8-1 win over Cajon. Ethan Snellings went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out eight on 109 pitches.
Brayden Juarez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Thomas Scruggs drove in two runs. Brayden Dismang added two RBI, and Caleb Jamroz scored twice and drove in a run. Steve Rubio had two hits and an RBI for Cajon.
Yucaipa routed Beaumont 11-1 behind 12 hits. Zach Scribner allowed three hits and one run over six innings with five strikeouts.
Jason Franco went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Scribner added two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. Victor Verdugo was 2-for-3 for Beaumont.
Citrus Valley blanked Redlands 8-0 as senior Jake Clark pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts on 106 pitches.
Nathan Reyes went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Aaron Rossi was 2-for-4, and Tristan Garcia-Rojas was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Julian Cessna, Kaden DeSharlia, Nathan Castillo and Jacob Thomas-Bock each drove in a run.
Cajon edged REV 1-0 as Elon Hickman outpitched Caleb Jamroz. Hickman threw 6.1 innings, allowing four hits before Garcia recorded the final two outs for the save.
Hugo Sanchez tripled and scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning. Ethan Snellings and Nick Story each had two hits for REV.
Yucaipa defeated Beaumont 3-1 behind a complete-game three-hitter from Xavier Romero. The game was tied 1-1 after five innings before the Thunderbirds scored twice in the sixth.
Romero struck out five on 95 pitches. Enrique Estrada went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Jimmie Cole and Zach Scribner each drove in a run with sacrifice flies.
