REDLANDS, Calif. — About 200 households in Redlands and Mentone are under a boil water notice after two water main breaks caused a loss of pressure Tuesday afternoon, according to city officials.
The breaks were reported around 4 p.m. Aug. 26 near Wabash Avenue and Interstate 10 in Redlands and in the 11000 block of Overcrest Drive in Mentone, the city of Redlands Water Division said.
Crews worked overnight to repair the pipes and began repressurizing the system early Wednesday morning. Notices were being hand-delivered to affected households.
Boil water notices are issued as a precaution when water lines lose pressure because of the potential for contamination. Such notices typically remain in place for up to 72 hours while officials complete multiple water quality tests.
Bottled water is being distributed to affected residents at Trinity Church, 1551 Reservoir Road, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until the notice is lifted. Households are limited to one case of water per day and must show proof of residence.
