Three players from Redlands schools made the recently announced, prestigious All-CIF-Southern Section baseball team.
Arrowhead Christian Academy’s Diesel Toth and Bobby Mahoney and Citrus Valley’s Cole West grace the all-section Division 3 team.
West hit .387 with five home runs and 27 runs batted in. Citrus Valley went 16-13 overall and lost a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 opening round game to Glendora, 4-1.
“It’s an honor to be a part of the CIF team,” West said. “It’s a recognition of the hard work I’ve put in. I couldn’t have done it without my coaches, teammates, and family.”

Arrowhead Christian's Mahoney went 7-2 on the mound with a 2.08 earned run average. He struck out 64 and walked 32.
Toth went 3-0 on the mound with a 1.20 ERA. He struck out 28 and walked six. He also hit .418 with six home runs and 34 RBI.

The Eagles went 19-12 overall and made the CIF Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinal game.
Here are some other interesting all-section honorees:
Aquinas’ pitcher/outfielder Gavin Egan made the Division 1 team. He formerly played at Yucaipa. Egan went 7-0 on the mound with a 0.96 earned run average in helping the Falcons to a 25-3 record. He struck out 32 and walked 13. Egan also hit .372 with one home run and 17 RBI.
Cajon’s Gavin Garcia made the D3 team as a utility player. He went 8-3 on the mound with a 2.98 ERA for the 20-9 Cowboys. Garcia struck out 62 and walked 49. He also hit .435 with two home runs and 22 RBI.
Loma Linda Academy pitcher/first baseman Andrew Pennell made the D9 team. Pennell had a game-winning double in the Roadrunners’ second-round game to send them to the quarterfinals – the farthest Loma Linda (14-1) has ever advanced in the playoffs.
A third-generation San Francisco native. His first job was in Watsonville, where he wrote stories on a typewriter and people smoked in the office. He's covered Redlands, San Bernardino and Riverside.
