Late, 5-run rally ends ACA season
REDLANDS – One out from a section quarterfinal victory, the unthinkable happened to the Arrowhead Christian Academy baseball team. Beckman High
Press Row
When the Kennedy High of La Palma boys volleyball team defeated Redlands High 3-0 in the CIF Southern Section D5 playoffs May 3, the match was played in Redlands’ antiquated Girls Gymnasium.
The Girls’ Gym was built in 1936 by the Works Project Administration. The edifice cost only $105,496, since the WPA utilized unemployed skilled laborers during the Great Depression.
Mystifying to the Kennedy players was the old clock in the corner of the gymnasium with the hand that travels in a circular motion (at least it did at one time). The visiting players had never seen such a thing and didn’t know what it was.
“My favorite thing is the 1930s clock in the corner,” Kennedy coach Travis Warner said. “Nobody knew what that was until I told them. I said, ‘Well, there’s a score on both sides and a little light next to the number for the quarter.’ It’s great.”
No argument.
The Arrowhead Christian Academy baseball team defeated host Warren of Downey 6-3 on Tuesday to make the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.
