AAUW Redlands to Host Annual Membership Brunch at University of Redlands

The Redlands branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) invites prospective members from throughout the region to attend their annual membership brunch at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Casa Loma room at the University of Redlands.

Guests are invited to browse information tables and displays showcasing the myriad of ways AAUW Redlands works to advance equity for women and girls and make a positive impact in our community.

“There are many, many ways for new members to get involved in community service and make new friends,” said Amy Bisek, AAUW Redlands co-president.

“We have committees focused on various practical, effective ways to advocate for equity for our local women and girls, “Bisek explained.

“Plus, we have a diverse list of monthly interest groups that are very fun. Whether it’s book club or bridge, a discussion group, hiking or supporting a fundraising activity, AAUW Redlands is  a great way to meet people and be active.”

AAUW Redlands sponsors two annual STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) conferences where 900 + eighth-grade girls from the Inland Empire learn about STEM careers. The branch also sponsors several eighth-grade girls at Tech Trek, a week-long academic residential and online summer camp.

In addition, the Redlands branch offers college scholarships to graduating seniors and to students returning to college after an interruption in their education.

AAUW brings Start Smart, Work Smart and the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders to local campuses and supports the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund.

The October branch meeting will focus on the value and joy of belonging to such an organization. Members and guests will be treated to the when-and-why three current members joined the Redlands branch and which projects and activities they participate in to keep them coming back year after year.  Lisa Wright joined in 2022, Ann Leonard is a 15-year member, and Nelda Stuck has been an AAUW member for over 50 years.

“Their stories show an enthusiasm for AAUW that permeates throughout our membership,” Bisek said. “If you are interested in becoming more involved, this is the meeting you’ll want to attend. You’ll discover how to make a direct impact in the Inland Empire, plus make an invigorating impact on your personal life.”

There is no cost for prospective members to attend the brunch, but reservations are required. Email rsvp@AAUWRedlands.org or call (909) 362-4955 to reserve your spot. Reservations will be accepted on a space-available basis.

AAUW membership is open to those who hold an associate (or equivalent) or higher degree from an accredited institution.
