Police say the driver stopped and cooperated with officers and investigators found no sign of impairment.
REDLANDS, Calif. — An 82-year-old woman was killed Friday evening when she was struck by a car while crossing Cypress Avenue near Alvarado Street, according to the Redlands Police Department.
The collision occurred shortly after sunset, around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the woman was walking east on Cypress while talking on her cellphone and began crossing the street diagonally near Alvarado Street. As she entered the westbound lane, she was hit by a 2004 Toyota Prius traveling west on Cypress.
The driver stopped immediately after the collision while bystanders called 911. Redlands Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Police said the driver was cooperative and showed no signs of impairment. The crash remains under investigation.

This is the city's third pedestrian fatality in the last three months. In September, a 38-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run near Industrial Park Drive and in August a 67-year-old woman died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Lugonia Avenue near the Redlands Senior Center.
