71-year-old bicyclist hospitalized after collision in Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. — A 71-year-old bicyclist suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a car on Orange Street near the Santa Ana River wash late Wednesday, Aug. 20, according to Redlands Police.
Emergency crews responded around 11 p.m. and found the man unresponsive. He was transported to the hospital with abrasions, broken bones and internal injuries. Police said there is no indication the driver of the 2013 Honda Civic was impaired. The collision remains under investigation.
In other incidents reported by Redlands Police between Aug. 14 and Aug. 21:
- A driver was arrested for DUI after a two-vehicle crash at Redlands Boulevard and 5th Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21. The suspect was treated for a head injury before being booked.
- Police arrested two juveniles after locating a stolen vehicle on Lugonia Avenue Saturday afternoon, Aug. 16. The car had been reported stolen by the owners’ juvenile family member while they were on vacation. Several suspects fled when officers stopped the vehicle in a cul-de-sac, but three juveniles, including the driver, remained inside. Police said one suspect had a loaded, un-serialized 9mm handgun in his waistband. A third juvenile was released to parents at the scene.
- Two businesses were burglarized early Friday, Aug. 15. At Carolyn’s Café on Brookside Avenue, a suspect broke in through a window, damaged a cash register and attempted unsuccessfully to pry open a safe, causing about $2,000 in damage. Less than an hour later, suspects broke into El Pollo Loco on West Colton Avenue through a side door but left after finding an empty register.
