Sara and Stephanie Brittin of Redlands place sixth in events at state JC meet
Local athletes earn top-eight finishes at California Community College Athletic Association championships
Sara and Stephanie Brittin of Redlands both placed in the top 10 in their specialty events at the California Community College Athletic Association state track and field championship May 16 at Mt. San Antonio College’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Sara, an Orangewood High graduate, hurled the javelin 119 feet, 4 inches for a sixth-place finish. She also ran a leg on Riverside City College’s 4x100-meter relay team that finished second in 46.73 seconds.
Stephanie, a Redlands High graduate, also placed sixth, recording a triple jump mark of 37 feet, 1.5 inches.
Also helping RCC women score points was former Cajon High hurdler and Citrus Belt League champion Kirsten Marpaung, who placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 14.48 seconds.
RCC finished fifth in the women’s team standings with 59.5 points.
San Bernardino Valley College freshman Tamia Hardwick of Moreno Valley took fifth in the long jump at 18 feet, 3 inches. SBVC’s Savannah Flores was sixth in the 10,000 meters in 39:14.25.
On the men’s side of the state championship, Zach Calderon of SBVC placed eighth in the 10,000 meters in 32:50.03. Micah Watson of SBVC was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:20.01. Jordan Carter of SBVC was eighth in the triple jump at 46 feet, 7 inches.
Beaumont High School graduate Tyrus Murguia, the 2024 CIF Southern Section long jump champion with a prep best of 23 feet, 5 inches, placed third at the state meet with a leap of 23 feet, 9 inches while competing for Mt. SAC.
