RUSD students to receive free breakfast and lunch during 2026-27 school year

REDLANDS, Calif. — All students enrolled in Redlands Unified School District will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2026-27 school year through California's Universal Meals Program, district officials announced.

The statewide program, established under Assembly Bill 130, provides breakfast and lunch at no cost to every public school student, regardless of household income. Families do not need to submit a meal application or pay for school meals to participate.

District officials said the program is intended to ensure all students have consistent access to nutritious meals while reducing financial barriers for families.

Breakfast will be available beginning 30 minutes before the start of the school day. Elementary students also may receive breakfast during their morning recess, while middle and high school students can access breakfast during morning passing periods.

Lunch will be served every school day, including on minimum days, according to the district.

Students participating in eligible after-school programs also may have access to after-school meals.

District officials noted that participation in the Universal Meals Program does not automatically qualify families for Sun Bucks, California's summer grocery benefit program. Families seeking information about Sun Bucks or school meal services are encouraged to contact the district's Child Nutrition Services Department.

Students in Redlands Unified return to classrooms for the first day of the 2026-27 school year on Aug. 13.
