Redlands East Valley and Redlands High track and field athletes set class and all-time prep career records in recent track and field invitationals.

Elijah Medina set both a sophomore class record and a new all-time Redlands East Valley High School record in the Eric Hulst 3200-meter run at the Hi-Racer Meet of Champions at Arroyo High School on March 21.

Medina ran the fastest 3200 meters ever run by a REV athlete, hitting the tape in a personal best 9:07.56, breaking the old school record of 9:12.53 set by Liam Mapes in 2021.

It was also a sophomore class record, breaking the old mark of 9:28.16 set by Matthew Casillas in 2018.

Ayden Ramirez from Citrus Belt League competitor Cajon High, competing in the same meet, won the other boys 3200-meter run in 9:12.30.

Redlands High junior Sadie Herford broke a 12-year-old class record in the 400 meters with a time of 59.59, breaking the mark of 60.34 set by Allison Crowley in 2014.

Herford is now ranked No. 2 in junior class records in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.69, second only to Juanita Webster’s 42.87 set in 2014. Herford’s 17-foot long jump ranks second only to Margeaux Jones’ leap of 20 feet, 5.5 inches in 2014. Her 200-meter time of 26.09 is No. 4 on the junior list behind Jones’ 24.38 set in 2014.

The Terriers’ Kasen Gragg has moved into the boys’ top 10 list among sophomores in three categories and made the top 10 in career best marks for all classes in two events already this season.

Gragg’s 6-foot, 7-inch high jump makes him No. 1 among Terriers sophomores. He ranks No. 2 on the sophomore triple jump record list with a 43-foot, 6-inch effort. The No. 1 mark is held by Walter Jones at 43 feet, 11.5 inches, set in 2011. Gragg’s 21-foot long jump ranks No. 5 on the sophomore class list.

In addition, Gragg’s best high jump now ranks No. 2 on the all-time RHS career list behind Joel Mitre’s 6-foot, 10-inch effort set 39 years ago in 1987. His triple jump mark this season moved him into No. 8 on the RHS all-time career record list for the event.

In other weekend events, Beaumont High’s track and field team finished second as a team in the varsity boys, varsity girls, frosh-soph boys, and frosh-soph girls divisions at the annual Cougar Classic in Beaumont on March 21. La Quinta High won all four divisions.

Daryl Williams of BHS won the varsity 100 meters in 10.79 and the 200 meters in 21.95 and ran a leg on the Cougars’ 4x100-meter crew that was second in 42.29. Jacob Homan of Yucaipa took second in the triple jump at 43 feet, 3 inches. Yucaipa’s Emmalyne Dowdy won both the girls shot put and discus at the meet.
