Arrests come after homeowner interrupts break-in attempt; police investigating possible ties to recent southside burglary spree.
REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police arrested three suspects late Friday night in connection with an attempted home burglary in the city’s southside — the same neighborhood where several recent break-ins have been reported.
Police responded just before midnight April 4 to a residence in the 1600 block of Calle Solejar Drive after a woman reported four men in her backyard breaking the rear glass door. When the resident confronted them, the suspects fled in a dark SUV.
An officer recognized the vehicle description from prior burglary calls, and — with support from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter — police tracked the SUV to the Moreno Valley Mall. Four individuals exited the car and went inside.
Redlands police and Riverside County sheriff’s deputies surrounded the mall and coordinated with security staff. Surveillance footage helped officers locate and arrest three suspects: two men from San Bernardino and one from Los Angeles. They were booked on suspicion of attempted burglary and conspiracy.
This incident occurred near the area of several break-ins previously reported by Community Forward Redlands, where residents described windows being smashed and power shut off prior to entry. Redlands detectives are investigating whether the three men arrested Friday may be connected to that string of burglaries.
