REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police made progress this week in a November 2 shooting investigation and responded to a series of burglaries, a residential fire and several unrelated arrests, according to the department’s weekly update for Nov. 7–13.
Officers conducted a follow-up investigation into a shooting that occurred during a teenage house party on Nov. 1. Police initially responded to reports of shots fired, but victims and witnesses had picked up spent shell casings and did not report the incident.
The next day, a parent learned of the shooting and contacted police. Officers returned to the scene and collected evidence. This week, investigators identified a 17-year-old suspect. School resource officers arrested the teen at Redlands Unified School District offices, and detectives later recovered a firearm during a search of the suspect’s home. The weapon will be tested to determine whether it was used in the shooting.
Police are investigating three residential burglaries reported between Nov. 7 and 11 on Rhonda Lane, Clock Avenue and Fernwood Drive. In each case, the suspect or suspects appeared to have entered by smashing a rear glass door.
Stolen items included jewelry, cash, credit cards, electronics and musical instruments. Police are encouraging residents to report suspicious activity and noted that the department’s Citizen Volunteer Unit offers vacation house checks for those away for extended periods.
Redlands police and fire crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 1100 block of Orange Street. Orange Street was temporarily closed between Union and Lugonia avenues, along with connecting side streets. No injuries were reported.
A skateboarder traveling at a high speed on Sunset Drive collided with an eastbound vehicle Nov. 9 after crossing into the opposing lane to avoid a car exiting Caroline Park’s parking lot. The skateboarder sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A man was arrested Nov. 11 after smashing six vehicle windows with a tire iron in the parking lot of the Library Gentleman’s Club on West Colton Avenue. Police said the man was extremely intoxicated and became upset after being asked to leave. Security detained him until officers arrived.
Officers responded Nov. 7 to reports of a nude man in an alley near Washington Street and Colton Avenue. They contacted the man and found him in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl. He was arrested and taken to jail.
