REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands police arrested a Yucaipa man on hate crime and criminal threat charges after he allegedly spit at Set Free Church, demanded the removal of a flag and made violent threats against the church, according to the department’s weekly update.

Two victims told police they were standing outside the church at 200 E. High Ave. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when the suspect pulled up, made the threats and then sped away. Investigators reviewed surveillance video to track the vehicle and identify the suspect, who was later arrested at his home following a consent search.

School assault

Two juveniles were arrested Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, after attempting to enter the Redlands High School campus despite not being students there. Police said one of the suspects assaulted a school resource officer with his fists and struck him in the back with a metal scooter. That suspect was taken into custody immediately, while the other fled on foot before being found at a nearby business. Both were booked on felony charges, including battery on police and security officers, and taken to juvenile hall.

Collisions and DUI arrests

Police arrested a driver for DUI Wednesday evening, Sept. 17, after a two-vehicle collision at San Bernardino Avenue and Tennessee Street caused minor injuries to another driver.

An intoxicated pedestrian was hospitalized with moderate injuries after jaywalking into traffic at Orange Street and Citrus Avenue late Saturday, Sept. 13. Police said the driver was not charged.

The same evening, a bicyclist suffered a pelvic fracture and other injuries after colliding with a utility trailer as the driver turned right from Lugonia Avenue onto Dearborn Street. Redlands paramedics freed the cyclist, who was transported to the hospital.

On Friday, Sept. 12, another cyclist sustained minor injuries after being struck by a dark gray SUV in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. The driver fled and the case remains under investigation.
