Redlands FC entered the first of their final three matches of the season in full control of their own destiny for a playoff spot and division title. A win against Capo FC would strengthen their chances of securing those achievements. Meanwhile a loss would send them scrambling for help in the final two weekends of the season.

The first half hour of the game went Redlands' way entirely. After surrendering the first shot on goal of the game and getting a penalty kick save by goalkeeper Tony Flores, Redlands scored two goals in the span of under ten minutes to lead 2-0. Wyatt Ponting and Efren Nunez were the goalscorers in the 22nd and 29th minute respectively.

After that second goal is when things changed for the worst for Redlands. In the 34th minute, Capo found the back of the net for the first time to cut the lead in half. It looked like Redlands would survive to halftime with the lead, but Capo converted in stoppage time. Redlands lead was gone in the blink of an eye.

The second half continued the struggle for Redlands. Despite having the majority of possession, they could not break through. Unfortunately, Capo did. With just a few minutes of regular time remaining, Capo found the back of a net to take the lead.

Redlands would make a final push, including in stoppage time while being up a man due to a red card. But it was not enough. Redlands would leave Dodge Stadium with their first home loss of the season.

The loss also takes Redlands playoff destiny out of their own hands. Now, they will likely need to win out and have a mixture of favorable results from Tucson, Ventura County, and Stars to make the playoffs.

The good news? Tucson plays Stars twice, and the Fusion also face Stars. Other good news? There are multiple results and paths that allow Redlands to regain control of their own destiny headed into the final one or two games of the season. Things will become much more clear after the 4th of July weekend.

For now, Redlands head on the road to face City SC before returning home July 11th to wrap up the regular season.
