Redlands FC finished off their 4th of July weekend in Carlsbad to take on City SC. A win for Redlands was essentially mandatory if they wanted to maintain their playoff hopes, and they answered the call.

The first half was a rather quiet one. Redlands goalkeeper Tony Flores had to make a critical save at the half hour mark, but that was one of the few opportunities either team had. Both teams also earned a couple of set piece opportunities, but none that resulted in a goal. The teams headed to the locker room after a scoreless opening 45 minutes.

The Redlands FC that came out in the second half was a completely different monster. Just under five minutes into the second half, Wyatt Ponting began the goal scoring. Ponting has made a major mpact in the final portion of the regular season, scoring 2 goals in the last 3 games.

RFC kept on pushing following the opening goal, and struck again in the 53rd minute thanks to Chicha Garcia. Jose de la Torre then put the dagger in City’s heart, as he broke free for a 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper that he executed in the 58th minute.

Redlands then shut down City for the remaining 32 minutes and stoppage time. They earn a monumental 3 points, and give fans all sorts of reasons to show up July 11th for the regular season finale.

RFC now know that regardless of what happens in the Southwest Division during the week that they have a path to the playoffs; win and in. A victory against the first place Ventura County Fusion on July 11th would send Redlands FC to the playoffs. If the Fusion lose their match on July 8th against Stars FC, a Redlands win would earn them the division title.

The club may be able to make the playoffs with just a draw on July 11th as well. However, that will not be known until possibly the final whistle of the final matchday. A preview article reviewing Redlands updated playoff clinching scenarios will be published later this week.
