Redlands Chamber Dog Jog returns Oct. 5 with costumes, adoptable dogs and more

REDLANDS, Calif. — Dogs and their humans will take over Smiley Park on Oct. 25 for the ninth annual Redlands Chamber Dog Jog, a community event benefiting the Redlands Animal Shelter.

Hosted by the Redlands Chamber of Commerce, the Dog Jog begins and ends at Smiley Park on Eureka Street, between A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine.

Half of the proceeds from $30 adult registration fees will benefit the Redlands Animal Shelter. Children younger than 18 can participate for free, and there is no additional charge for dogs.

The Chamber has donated more than $10,000 from the event to the shelter over the past three years and is aiming to raise that amount from this year's event alone.

In addition to the jog, the event will feature K-9 demonstrations by local police departments, a dog agility course, a hot dog-catching contest sponsored by Dawgs 4 Dogs and a canine costume contest.

Participants will also have an opportunity to walk adoptable Redlands Animal Shelter dogs along the course.

An adoptable dog parade will feature animals from the Redlands Animal Shelter, REDlands Friends Of Shelter Animals, Yucaipa Animal Placement Society and Cause for San Bernardino Paws.

The costume contest will award six prize baskets donated by local businesses, with categories for Top Dog, Most Creative, Funniest, Best Duo/Group, Spookiest and Judges' Choice.

Food vendors will also be available, with additional details expected closer to the event.
