REDLANDS — With the holiday season approaching, residents are invited to learn practical ways to reduce waste and make sustainable choices at a free community event titled “Wasting Less, Living More: How Redlands Can Lead on Waste Reduction.”
The event, part of the Accelerate Neighborhood Climate Action (ANCA) educational series Resilient Living: Facing Challenges Together, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Flores Senior Center, 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
City Sustainability Coordinator Kaitlyn Haberlin and Recycling Coordinator Michael Hynes will discuss how Redlands’ new Climate Action Plan addresses solid waste. Their presentation will cover expanded programs for collecting yard and kitchen organics and new strategies to help residents and businesses waste less.
Christy Cooper of Feel Good Market will also speak, sharing creative, low-waste ideas for holiday gifting and wrapping, along with tips to avoid single-use plastics and packaging.
Organizers said the program will explore the “six R’s” of waste reduction — Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, and Rot — and how Redlands can move toward a zero-waste future.
The evening will include a raffle, refreshments, and opportunities for community connection.
Registration for the free event is available through ANCA’s website, www.ancaredlands.org.
The event is sponsored by ANCA with special thanks to Charles T. Gatson.
