REDLANDS, Calif. — Drivers and pedestrians can expect temporary lane and sidewalk closures as Caltrans continues work on a $10.4 million pavement rehabilitation and safety project in Redlands from Aug. 17-28.

Construction is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with nighttime and weekend work possible as needed, according to Caltrans.

Over the next several weeks, crews are expected to work on curb ramps and driveways along Pearl Avenue between Eureka and North Sixth streets. Channelizers will be installed to maintain pedestrian access through the construction area.

The larger State Route 38 project includes work along Lugonia Avenue and several other locations in Redlands, including I-10 to Occidental Drive, Orange Street to Pearl Avenue and Eureka Street to I-10.

Improvements include upgrading 73 curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, installing eight new bus pads, adding Class I bike lanes, improving sidewalks, installing new traffic signal poles, upgrading pedestrian signals and rehabilitating pavement.

Temporary sidewalk, lane and shoulder closures are anticipated. Lane reductions, detours, alternating lane closures and one-way traffic controls may also be used during construction.

Speed limits will be reduced by 10 mph through the construction zone, and Caltrans said traffic breaks may occasionally be required to accommodate traffic shifts.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, follow posted detours and watch for crews and equipment in construction areas.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2027.
